File TypesTextText description is the basis of most task completions and frames any other media which is added. Few proofs can survive without text. PhotographsPhotographic proof is the most common method used by players of SF0. (The common nature of photo documentation does 'not' devalue photographs; anecdotal evidence suggests a picture is still worth at least 1000 words in this game.) Photo documentation is widely treated as the lynchpin of a good proof and an accumulation of photographs has rarely been treated as a strike against a player's proof effort. Generally speaking, photos that are taken 'by' the player(s) (or NPC? directly involved in the proof receive the favor of the player community, over against photos that have been located by web search or appropriated from other sources. The most highly praised proofs use original photographs which present the task completion directly. Quality of photographs is widely treated as a matter of interpretation, and players have only occasionally been criticized for using low-resolution images. For example, camera phones--notoriously bad producers of images--have contributed significantly to many quality proofs and players should not be afraid to engage in documenting a task on the basis of their camera's quality. AudioThis includes any recording of sound. Traditionally digital sound recordings sent or uploaded have been the extent of audio proofs, and the system of the SF0 website is able to automatically convert and display sound files in .mp3 format. This is also what happens to proof material that is recorded when a player calls the SF0 voice mail service. Adding audio components to a proof provides depth and variety. It is also inclusive of players with reading disabilities or who may not otherwise thoroughly read a lengthy text documentation. GraphicsSeveral tasks have been interpreted by the use of graphic designs, and many many players are designers outside of their contributions to SF0. Uploads of design files as .jpgs, .gifs, and pdfs is quite normal. VideoFor embedding video, there is a special syntax For YouTube enter: "[youtube:url_to_video]" e.g. For GoogleVideo enter: "[googlevideo:url_to_video]" e.g. EMBED and OBJECT tags are not allowed. We hope to be able to support JumpCut using URLs (as above), but there's a technical issue preventing that at the moment. You can also upload other files (such as pdfs) to your proof; while they cannot easily be directly embedded in the writeup, they will be available from the proof and can be viewed at the bottom of the proof itself. |
